New year resolution - go natural with your skin!

Happy New Year everyone! Everyone in FRUU would like to wish you all a prosperous and beautiful year!

Okay, with New Year comes your resolution for the year.  What’s yours?  Exercise more? Eat healthier?

What about your skin?  How are you going to take better care of your skin?  In FRUU, we have one advice for that.  That is to GO NATURAL!

Lately, people are leaning more and more towards more “natural” products that contain natural ingredients and organic ingredients.  People all across the globe are beginning to realise the amazing properties these wonderful natural ingredients can offer.

This week we would like to highlight a few of the hottest natural ingredients out there that can help to boost your skin:

  • Coconut Oil – This is by far the best skin care tonic/moisturizer one can ever use; whether it is used as it is or in a cream. Be it a cracked heel, chapped lips, acne, dry skin or eczema; you name it, coconut oil does it! Packed with Vitamin E, Lauric acid and saturated fats, coconut oil is a natural skin softener.  It can be used as a makeup remover, exfoliant and it even prevents aging of skin. Saturated fats are mostly triglycerides that help the skin to retain moisture for long.  Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, it helps to treat eczema and dry skin too!

  • Olive Oil – Olive oil contains lots of antioxidants -polyphenols and hence prevents premature aging and makes the skin silky smooth. It is super gentle on the skin and you can use it to remove tough makeup from the delicate eye area. It helps to cleanse the skin without clogging the pores. Its antiseptic properties make it an excellent aftershave balm.

  • Shea Butter – As the name suggests, this butter is a master of all when it comes to skin care. Native to the African Shea nut tree, it gets absorbed by the body readily and is really helpful in soothing cracked and dry skin. It has a smooth, buttery texture that everybody loves.  Also its skin healing and anti-inflammatory properties (from Vitamins A and E it contains) make it a wonderful lip balm.

  • Aloe Vera – Who hasn’t heard of Aloe Vera? This little green plant is filled with a cooling, gel like substance that does wonder to the skin. This gel forms natural humectants which help to moisturize the skin and to retain its moisture. It also has this rare soothing property, which helps calm down inflamed skin caused by acne, sunburn, and helps to lighten blemish marks.

  • Jojoba Oil – Jojoba oil is packed with various nutrients and vitamins. It is actually a liquid wax, which gives a nourishing, silky, yet non-oily skin feel.  It helps to keep the skin hydrated for a long time. Like most natural oils, it works wonders as a face cleanser and can be used to moisturize the body after a shower. The anti-microbial properties of jojoba oil can also help to fight acne and pimples.  However it is becoming increasingly exotic due to its high cost.  So if you find a product with it, you know it is made with quality stuff!

The biggest advantage of using products with natural ingredients is that most of them have added benefits of being anti-inflammatory and includes a complex cocktail of vitamins, minerals and other natural nutrients that synthetic alternatives cannot provide.

However, you need to be extra savvy when you buy “natural” products, as many of the biggest brands (most you could see in your favourite chemist!) out there who claim to use natural ingredients on the bottle with big letters might only be using 1% of natural ingredients and 99% of synthetic chemicals. So do check for dubious ingredients on the label of any product before you buy it.

Hopefully you would to go natural for the New Year for your skin!

Until next time.. Chao!
